Catch up on weeks 3-5 (oops) living in Barcelona

It’s been quite a while since I last wrote because of school and being ill.

October 7: celebrated Sarah’s birthday with a group of friends. We went to a popular restaurant named Flax and Kale – had some champagne and the food was incredible. Then we went to the beach afterward and hung out for a little.

October 8: I met my new friend Solei at the Sharma Climbing Gym, located in Besos.

October 10: Went outdoor rock climbing for the first time with Calvin and Solei. It’s a big tunnel that has artificial holds. On the other end there are concrete formations where you can climb actual rocks, which was pretty cool. I learned how to lead climb which is also great because it’s something that I’ve been wanting to do.

October 11: celebrated Kelly’s birthday (met her at Uni orientation) with a group picnic near the Arc de Triumph in Parc de Ciutadella.

October 12: probably my favorite trip yet while being here, the canyon adventure! It was absolutely incredible and I was so happy that Solei and Calvin wanted to come with me. We jumped off of some small cliffs into the water. The rock unfer the water is limestone so it reminded me of home, but there is a lot of clay in that area so the color was a little more prominent.

October 14: met with my new speaking partner for the first time and went to a vegan cafe! Find the right places in Barcelona and you can get a three course lunch for 10 euro. There was a demonstration going by as we sat inside for lunch. My speaking partner – Christina – is also vegan! She has a company that plans trips to different countries for vegans to try all different types of food. The upcoming one is to Thailand.

From that point until now I’ve had a little bit of a cold, but two days ago it turned into a cough. It seems to be going away (hopefully!) now. I’m going with my host family to the mountains so hopefully the fresh air helps. The weather has been all over the place and I think it’s time to get some more layers in clothing. Pollution doesn’t help either, though.
